IS GOING ELECTRIC THE RIGHT MOVE?
Switching to an electric vehicle may seem daunting, but it’s also an inevitability. That’s because after 2035, the sale of new diesel and petrol vehicles is going to banned. Don’t worry, you’ll still be able to drive your existing vehicles, or buy one via the second-hand market, but if you want a brand-spanking new vehicle it’s almost certainly going to be powered by electricity.
Then of course there’s the eco benefits of going electric. No exhaust emissions means less CO2 being released into the atmosphere and our cities, which is great news for pedestrians, pedal pushers and the planet as a whole. In fact, it’s estimated that switching to an EV can save an average of 1.5 million grams of CO2 every year*. That’s almost as much as four return flights from London to Disneyland Paris. There’s less noise pollution too, as electric vehicles are far quieter than their CO2 spewing counterparts.
With the cost-of-living crisis showing no sign of slowing down, making your money work harder is more important than ever. On top of lower running costs EVs are exempt from congestion charges until 2025, as well as London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone. There’s a bunch of current tax benefits too including zero Vehicle Excise Duty (AKA Road Tax), which you can read all about at motorway.co.uk.
